Research and Planning: Double page spread analysis

This is a double page spread from 'Q' magazine I chose to use 'Q' because it is the same genre as I am using for my magazine. I think the target audience for this particular issue of 'Q' is indie/pop because Lady Gaga is an artist of that genre. I think the target audience for this magazine is people aged 16 and over because Lady Gaga is popular with the younger generation, I also think this because the layout is very simple and basic, it sticks to the three colour rule and the page isn't too busy like a pop magazine might be. I think for this specific issue it would be more for female than male audience, I think this because the image is of a female and the featured artist is more popular amongst females.
The layout of this page is in three columns on the right side, which is conventional to most magazines, it's very simple and clear to read. The image stands out on the page as it fills the whole size of an A4 sheet, I've noticed from looking at style models that a lot of magazines use this layout for their double page spreads. Q have put the initial of the artist faded into the background of the article, it really makes the page stand out but I'm not entirely sure why they have done this because I find it is harder to read the article with the big 'L' there I think it's to distracting and draws the readers eye away from what they are supposed to be looking at, the writing over the red parts are also harder to read. I think they have chosen suitable fonts and font size for the article its mostly clear to read and the bigger letters at the start of some paragraphs really stand out to the readers
At the bottom of the page they have added a website, issue month, page number and also the magazine logo, I think all of these small details add a lot of professionalism to the magazine and I will be sure to add them onto mine.
